SASSI STAFF

Research Fellow: Sobia Saeed Paracha

She has begun her professional career with SASSI. She accomplished Masters in Defense and Strategic Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad in the year 2008 and has graduated as a B.A from Punjab University, Lahore with Economics and Political Science as major subjects, in 2006. Her major work project at SASSI is related to the evolution and functioning of Pakistan’s strategic export controls. She has also published a research report on the given topic. Other than that she has been actively participating and organizing the frequent institutional talks and seminars. She has also contributed as a team member of SASSI for the International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS 2008). She was member of the research team of SASSI that wrote the technical briefs on Indo-IAEA Safeguards System, the Franco-Pak Partnership and Kerry-Lugar Act ( S-1707): Uncut.

Sobia has also participated in a few T.V programs as a nuclear and defense analyst.

Her research interest lay both in traditional and non-traditional approaches towards security and strategy including, nuclear proliferation, arms control debate, changing patterns of future conflicts, the phenomena of terrorism and WMDs, etc. she is also interested to work upon various theories of policy formulation and strategy. She has authored research papers and policy briefs on issues such as "Nuclear Terrorism and its Relevance to Pakistan's Nuclear Safety and Security". She has also been working on "The Pak-Russia Bilateral Ties".

She aims to work as a catalyst for change in the current strategic thinking and discourse in Pakistan. Sobia is determined to pursue her career in security related social science research and wants to excel for her own learning experience, inline with the organizational objectives.
