Visiting Fellow: Mr Shahid-ur-Rehman

Shahid-ur-Rehman is correspondent for Kyodo News Agency of Japan, in Pakistan and strings for Mcgraw-Hill newsletter "Nucleonics Week", newsletter covering the nuclear industry and proliferation issues. He received letter of commendation from Kyodo for coverage of 9/11 and an interview with President General Pervez Musharraf in 2005 about the transfer of nuclear technology to North Korea by Dr. A.Q. Khan.

He is author of three books, "WHO OWNS PAKISTAN?" a study about the concentration of wealth in Pakistan, published in May 1998 and "LONG ROAD TO CHAGAI," a history of Pakistan’s nuclear program, published in May 1999.His latest book "Pakistan Sovereignty Lost" is about Pakistan’s external debt and was published in February this year. In 1995, he worked with Washington-based Wisconsin Project on a report about Pakistan’s nuclear program. He has also contributed to major newspapers in Pakistan and was a stringer for Asia Week and major newsletters and magazines of Mcgraw Hill till 2000.

His contributions for North-South News Agency were carried by leading international newspapers including the International Herald Tribune. In 1980, he was awarded one years fellowship by Minnesota-based World Press Institute.

Starting as an economic reporter for Pakistan Press International in 1971, and later as bureau chief for Morning News, Karachi, he has extensively reported the economic and diplomatic scene from Islamabad during last 35 years experience.

Poverty reduction, north-south relations, regional cooperation and nuclear proliferation are his special areas of interest.
