Research Fellow: Masood-ur-Rehman

Masood Ur Rehman is working in the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute Islamabad as a Research Fellow.

He has a M. Phil in Defense and Strategic Studies, from Quaid-I-Azam University Islamabad. His areas of interest are Nuclear Deterrence in South Asia, Non-Proliferation issues and Terrorism. His Major Research Work during M.Sc and M.Phil were his M.Phil Thesis on “US War on Terror: Implications for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Final M. Phil Seminar paper on “Nuclear Deterrence in South Asia” and Final M. Sc Seminar paper on Indian Nuclear Doctrine, it’s Regional and International Implications.

His Major Research work at SASSI (South Asian Strategic Stability Institute) includes Nuclear Deterrence in South Asia and effectiveness of Pakistan Nuclear command and Control Structure”, which is Under Peer-Review).

Technical assessment of Indo-US Nuclear Deal”. This has been published by SASSI.

Pakistan’s Role in Global War on Terrorism: and Areas of Clash with United States. (Working Paper).

He has been writing an Op-Ed article on Obama’s Step towards Ratification of CTBT and Its Implications for Pakistan, and a paper entitled Pakistan is ready to Face Indian Aggression and Safety and Security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and as well as Creeping Talibanization in Pakistan, which has been published by SASSI on its Web.

His recent research projects include the “Nuclear Energy Deal between “Pakistan and France: Prospects and Challenges”, “Pakistan-France Defence Collaboration: Future prospects”. “US War on Terror: Policy Options for Pakistan and United States”, and “Threats to Nuclear Deterrence in South Asia”.

He has been actively organizing and participating in Conferences/ Seminars with the SASSI Team: Notable among those were the “France - Pakistan: Addressing Common Challenges through Sustainable Partnership: A Talk by the French Ambassador: H.E. Daniel Jounneau”, “International Defence Exhibition and Seminar 2008. “Arms for Peace Altering the Security Paradigm at Global and Regional Levels” with collaboration of DEPO. An In-House Talk on ‘The Dynamic Nature of Deterrence in South Asia’ SASSI, Islamabad. February 11, 2009. SASSI’s Workshop on Non-Proliferation, Nuclear and Radiation Safety 2009. Indo-US Nuclear Deal: Implications for Pakistan. In Collaboration with ISSI. 2009 and most recently Mr. Masood presented a paper on “National Security in the Cyber Age” at a 3-day seminar organised by Russell Plus International in collaboration with Aptech and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce Industry.
