Associate Fellow: Dr. Hooman Peimani

Dr. Hooman Peimani has a PhD in International Relations with a focus on regional security from Queen’s University, Canada. As a researcher/analyst, he specializes in political, economic and military/security issues pertaining to West and South Asia. In particular, he concentrates on security- and armed conflict-related issues of those regions/countries and on their impact on national, regional and international security.

His diversified work experience includes employment for national and international, private and public and academic and non-academic institutions, including United Nations agencies in Switzerland and Central Asia. Added to his extensive fieldwork in West Asia, including Central Asia and the Caucasus, he has teaching experience in the field of International Relations and years of experience as a freelance journalist. Currently, he is working as a Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for International Cooperation and Security (CICS), Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford, UK.

In addition to several newspapers, he has made contributions as an expert to various publications of news agencies (e.g., Reuters and United Press International) and/or been quoted by them of which many are available on the Internet.

As an expert on political, economic and military/security issues of West and South Asia, he has made regular contributions to the Persian, Tajiki, Turkmen, Russian and English programs and publications of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and to radio france internationale since the late 1990s.

He has over 17 years of research experience on issues pertaining to security, stability and conflict at the regional and international levels. As an expert, he has attended since the late 1980s many conferences in North America, Europe and Central Asia in the capacity of a participant or speaker.

His extensive publications include seven books, 20 chapters in books/encyclopaedia, 50 journal articles, 130 newspaper articles, over 10 special publications for international organizations and several bookreviews on the abovementioned issues. Many of his newspaper and journal articles are available on the Internet.
